Palacios, the Clarence J. LeBel Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at MIT, has been named the recipient of the 2026 SIA/SRC University Research Award for Technology. His research bridges materials science, physics, and engineering to advance the development of next-generation micro- and nanosystems.

In addition to directing MIT’s Institute for Soldier Nanotechnologies (ISN), Palacios serves as director of MIT’s Microsystems Technology Laboratories (MTL) and assistant director of the Center for Superior Energy-efficient Materials and Devices (SUPREME), part of the SRC-led JUMP 2.0 research initiative.

The organizations also named Keren Bergman, professor of electrical engineering at Columbia University, as the recipient of the 2026 SIA/SRC University Research Award for Design, recognizing her contributions to optical interconnect networks and photonic-enabled computing architectures.

The awards will be presented at the SIA Awards Dinner on November 19, 2026, in San Jose, California.
