Prof. John D. Joannopoulos (1947–2025)

In the early morning hours of August 17, 2025, Prof. John Joannopoulos, ISN Director since 2006 and a member of the MIT faculty since 1974, passed away following an extended battle with cancer. He will be sorely missed as a leader, scientist, educator, mentor, and friend. His legacy will endure.

Equipment Types

The ISN groups its equipment broadly into four types: Analysis Equipment, Microscopy Equipment, Sample Preparation Equipment, and Project-Specific Equipment. A list of equipment within each type is available through the links below.
